Commemorative Pavers
Mark Your Place in Carthage History
Granite walkways paved with commemorative pavers lead to sidewalks that connect the entire Carthage campus. Names of alumni and friends of the College are etched in sections of these attractive walkways.
These granite paths originate at Sesquicentennial Plaza, a forum that honors those whose vision and sacrifice have nurtured the Carthage spirit. At the center of the forum is “A Learning Moment,” a larger-than-life bronze sculpture of Abraham Lincoln, an early Carthage trustee, and John Hay, a distinguished Carthage alumnus who went on to serve as President Lincoln’s personal secretary and later as U.S. Secretary of State. The sculpture represents the passage of wisdom from one generation to the next.
A commemorative pathway also connects residence halls on the south end of campus, leading to the new Tower Residence Hall. Names of alumni and friends are etched in sections of this walkway to share with current students the memories and cherished experiences of those who have come before them.
