“The physics program here is amazing, with connections across the country that I’d hope would make for a great education and possibly help me find a job post-graduation.”

Why Carthage?

“I choose Carthage for the smaller size knowing that means I would be able to get to know professors as people, and I wouldn’t just be an ID number to them, which sometimes happens at large schools. The physics program here is amazing, with connections across the country that I’d hope would make for a great education and possibly help me find a job post-graduation. Lastly, I came to Carthage to continue my swimming career, and the pool faculty and the coaches were amazing.”

Faculty mentors

“My teachers have been great, particularly within the Physics Department. Professor Dahlstrom, in particular, was great at pushing me to reach for a deeper understanding of a topic than the required coursework. All my professors have been amazing at answering questions about class topics or even other details about life at Carthage, don’t be afraid to approach them if you need help!”

Favorite class

“General Physics I is the class that most focused on my particular interests within the field of physics at my current level of understanding.”

Campus involvement

Golden opportunities

“I was able to be on the Gravitational Waves Research Project along with multiple other students under Professor Quashnock last spring.”

Career goal

“I hope I can find a job relating to physics; what that might be exactly, I’m not sure — maybe engineering related.”

Favorite spot on campus

The Oaks lounge overlooking the lake.”

Advice for other students in your major?

“We’re here to learn first and foremost, but we’re also here to have fun. My advice for other students is to take some classes that interest you regardless of if they count toward your degree as a way to grow yourself and your other interests.”

Scholarships

“I received the Sladek Scholarship for majoring in physics and the arts to reward using both sides of the mind.”
